There are people made out of sky. They wear clouds and the wind is their dance. They sob as it rains, and when their hearts break, snow falls.
There are people made of oceans. They glitter on the surface, until the chaos underneath rises up. They are a vicious and breathtaking mess of contradictions, and they will kill you for nothing more than going too deep.
You were the ocean, and the ocean never loves the sky back.
David Van Allen lives and works in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is a recently retired Professor Emeritus of Art, from Mount Mercy University, where he taught photography, design, Art History and Intro to Art for 29 years. He has been a commercial photographer on the side, since the early 1990’s and a fine artist since the late 70’s.
