A response to Michael Martone

"Water Drawing"

Process Notes

The thing that struck me in Michael Martone's story was the endless repetition, the way we can get stuck in a moment or an action and then it becomes our whole life. Recently I have been making "water drawings." They are photograms on black and white photo paper that use only water and light. I made this one in response to the story Still. While I drew and exposed it I was thinking about repetition, sky writing, a failed pattern and our imperfect emotions.
