Screen Door
A manufactured barrier blocks my new adventure. The barrier is beautiful; I know it well. The barrier took time to build. It’s hard to take down. Out of the barrier is a beautiful new adventure which is the unknown.

"In my work I am trying to find a safe place in the world. The doors and windows are entrances to places where I might find shelter. In the past work most of the doors were closed. Recently, with my diner series, I have begun to remove some of the barriers and move into the spaces. The spaces are not completely free of barriers but I feel like I am getting closer to my goal of feeling safer in the world."

THE SHOW WILL FEATURE VISUAL ART BY 26 IOWA ARTISTS AND CORRESPONDING CREATIVE RESPONSES GENERATED BY CHILDREN AND TEENS FROM THE IOWA YOUTH WRITING PROJECT'S SUMMER CAMPS.
